What is Stance?
Stance is TickerStance's daily 0-100 read on the US equity market, built from four subscores: Trend, Breadth, Leadership, and Macro. It answers one question, what kind of market is this right now and where should a swing trader be hunting, without forecasting where the market goes next or naming individual stocks to buy.
The calculation starts from a fixed 30/30/20/20 blend: Trend and Breadth each carry 30% because index direction and how many stocks are actually participating are the most durable regime signals, while Leadership and Macro carry 20% each as confirmation and context. Five bands split the 0-100 scale: Defensive 0-20, Caution 20-40, Neutral 40-60, Constructive 60-80, and Aggressive 80-100. A missing pillar is neutral-filled at 50 rather than dropped, so a data gap cannot silently drag the score in either direction, and when Macro falls below 30 a stress multiplier scales the final number toward zero, because a bull regime should not print while credit or volatility is broken. Aggressive additionally requires every pillar at 50 or higher, so one hot pillar cannot carry the other three.
How tickerstance uses Stance
Stance updates once per US trading day, after the close (roughly 23:30 UTC), and it is not a forecast or a trade signal. It describes current conditions the way a weather report describes today's sky rather than tomorrow's. /stance shows the live score plus a 9-session smoothed line, the Stance EMA, so a single volatile print does not get mistaken for a regime change.
As of the July 20, 2026 close, Stance read 32.4, Caution, down 4.8 points from the prior session, with subscores of Trend 38.9, Breadth 40.1, Leadership 39.2, and Macro 48.2. The dashboard summarized the read as "Macro leads, Trend lags" and called for selective entries only, tighter stops, and smaller positions, the standard playbook for a Caution-band tape.
