Up and down volume within 5% — heavy two-way trade, no clear winner — on 108% of the 30-day average.
This page shows where money moved in the US stock market in the latest session: which sectors and industries took the most volume, which stocks were most active, and whether volume confirmed or diverged from price. It reads conditions from dollar-volume and the up/down volume ratio across the eligible common-stock universe, and it reports them — it does not recommend any position.
Where the day’s dollar-volume concentrated, by sector or industry — larger area means a bigger share of total flow, color shows relative strength versus the S&P 500.

Each bar is one session’s up/down volume ratio over the last 30 days — above the line means more volume in rising stocks, below means the reverse.

The five measurements that combine into today’s regime tag: up/down ratio, relative volume, the flow slope, distribution-day count, and the McClellan Oscillator.
Total advancing-volume ÷ total declining-volume.
Today's total $-volume ÷ 30-day average.
5-session change in cumulative net advancing-volume (positive = rising).
IBD-style distribution-day count over the trailing 25 sessions.
Smoothed advance/decline-issue oscillator (19/39 EMA).
162 new highs vs 112 new lows (net +50).
The cumulative advance/decline volume line tracked the S&P 500.
Up volume 5.8B vs down volume 8.0B.
Distribution days: 7 (+0 vs prior session).
A volume regime is the prevailing condition of buying versus selling pressure across the US equity market, read from volume rather than price. TickerStance classifies each session into one of five regimes — accumulation, distribution, churning, stalling, or neutral — by comparing up-volume to down-volume and the day’s activity to its 30-day average. The regime reports conditions; it does not recommend any position.
Accumulation describes a session where up-volume dominates down-volume on heavier-than-average activity, meaning institutions added to positions more aggressively than they sold. Distribution is the mirror image: down-volume dominates up-volume on heavy activity, meaning selling pressure outweighed buying. TickerStance reads both from the up/down volume ratio and relative volume, and reports which one the latest US session matched. Neither is a recommendation.
UDVR is the up/down volume ratio: total advancing volume divided by total declining volume across the eligible US common-stock universe for a single session. A reading above 1.0 means more volume traded in rising stocks than falling ones; below 1.0 means the reverse. TickerStance tracks UDVR over a rolling 30-session window so you can see the day-by-day tilt between buying and selling pressure.
RVOL, or relative volume, is today’s dollar-volume divided by the same name’s 30-day average dollar-volume. An RVOL of 1.50× means a stock, sector, or the whole market traded 50% heavier than its recent norm. TickerStance uses RVOL to separate genuine conviction from quiet drift: a regime read carries more weight when the underlying activity is well above the 30-day average rather than below it.
A distribution day is an IBD-style concept: a session where a major index closes down at least roughly 0.2% on volume heavier than the prior day, indicating institutional selling into the market. TickerStance counts distribution days over a rolling window as one input to the volume regime. A rising count signals that selling pressure is accumulating beneath the surface, even when index prices still look orderly on the chart.
Cumulative net advancing volume is a running total of up-volume minus down-volume, accumulated session by session over roughly three months. TickerStance plots it against the SPY close so you can see when capital flow diverges from price — for example, when the running total falls while the index rises, hinting that fewer dollars are backing the advance. The shape of the line matters more than any single day’s number.
TickerStance aggregates dollar-volume and the up/down volume ratio across the eligible US common-stock universe — common shares only, ETFs excluded — after each US market close. It classifies each session into one of five regime tags — accumulation, distribution, churning, stalling, or neutral — from the up/down volume ratio, relative volume versus the 30-day average, and the slope of the cumulative net advancing-volume line. The distribution-day count and the McClellan Oscillator are shown alongside as supporting regime context. The methodology is fixed and the same calculation runs every trading day.
Yes. The full volume regime read — the day’s regime tag, sector and industry flow, the most-active names, and the volume tape — is public and indexable, with no sign-up required. The only feature reserved for Pro is replaying the read for a past trading date; the live latest-session view is open to everyone. TickerStance monetizes the labor of historical replay, never the daily data itself.
