Methodology · how to read this

How to use this board.Industries near the top are seeing the strongest relative price action vs the S&P 500 over the past 3 months. The board is a hunt list — click a row to see the full constituents, breadth, and relative-strength history for that industry. We don't tell you what to buy; we tell you where the bid is.

This is intel, not signals. Industry rotation reads tell you what the market is favouring; whether you trade them is a sizing and setup question we leave to you. Past regime ≠ future returns.

Primer · industry RS

What is an industry RS leaderboard, and why does it matter?

Markets don't move as one. On any given week, capital is rotating out of one corner of the economy and into another — banks giving way to chipmakers, oil giving way to airlines, gold giving way to regional banks. Relative-strength (RS) leaderboards are the cleanest way to see that rotation as it happens.

The TickerStance industries board ranks the 49 Fama-French industry buckets by their excess return versus the S&P 500. Industries near the top are seeing real bid: their stocks, on average, are outpacing the broader market. That's where institutional money is going. Industries near the bottom are being distributed.

Each row carries two extra reads layered on top of today's rank. Rotation shows how the rank has moved over the last five and twenty-one trading days, so you can separate climbers from stale strength. Concentrationflags whether the industry's RS is broad-based or carried by a few megacap names.

How retail swing traders use this

Look at the top of the board first. The leaders are your hunt list: industries with the wind at their back. Drill into one, scan its constituents, and you have a shortlist of names that are already working — no screener filtering required. The 1M / 3M / 6M / 1Y cross-horizon ranks let you tell the difference between a fresh rotation (climbing on 1M, mid-pack on 6M) and a mature trend (top-decile across all four).

Common questions

FAQ

What is FF49?

Fama-French 49. An academic taxonomy that groups every US-listed stock into one of 49 industry buckets by SIC code. Coarser than IBD's 197 groups, but free, transparent, and exactly what the Ken French data library publishes.

Is this free?

Yes. Both the board and each industry detail page are public. No sign-up. Pro unlocks alerts, history exports, and per-industry email digests.

How often does it update?

Nightly, after the US close. Posted around 5:30–6:00 PM ET. The banner up top shows when the next reading lands.

Is this trading advice?

No. TickerStance is a regime read, not trading advice. Past regime ≠ future returns.
