The Trend subscore answers this in real time. It combines four signals: SPY versus its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, the distance from the 52-week high, and the slope of the 200-day moving average. When SPY trades above both moving averages and the 200-day is rising, the regime is a confirmed uptrend. When the 200-day rolls over and SPY breaks below it, Trend deteriorates and Stance shifts toward Caution or Defensive.

What moving averages does the Trend score use?

The Trend subscore uses two moving averages for SPY: the 50-day, which marks short-to-intermediate trend support, and the 200-day, which is the long-term bull-versus-bear dividing line. SPY position relative to each average is measured as a percentage distance. In addition, the slope of the 200-day over the past 20 sessions indicates whether the long-term trend is gaining or losing momentum.
